Fried Prawns

Fried Prawns India

This is a simple starter. It also goes well as a side-dish. It also requires the ingredients readily available in most kitchens. It comes in most handy when you have unannounced guests.

These prawns taste fantastic when fried in coconut oil, but any other oil is also good enough.

Prawns – approximately 250gms.

Gram Flour – amount depends on the amount of water that comes out of the prawns. The batter that forms after adding gram flour should not be too thin.

Turmeric – 1 tsp

Chilli Powder – 1 tsp (if you like it spicy, add more)

Lime juice – 2 tsp

Ginger-garlic paste – 2 tsp

Salt to taste

Oil for deep frying

1. Devein the prawns and wash them.

2. Add all the ingredients except the gram flour and let the prawns marinate for approximately 30 – 45 minutes.

3. Once marinated, add the gram flour to form the batter. Refer to the thickness of the batter in the picture below.

4. Now deep-fry the prawns and you’re done.

5. I normally serve it with a dip made by mixing beaten hung curds, finely chopped mint leaves, a little sugar and salt to taste.

Bon Appetit!
